• Question: are there any samples of DNA which have to be kept warm instead of cold????

      We store DNA cold so that the enzymes which can degrade it (DNases) are inactivated by the low temperature. This means we can store it for ages on end (there’s a sample in our freezer from 1975!).

      We don’t have to keep any kind of DNA warm, but that doesn’t mean you can’t heat it up. But if you heat it too high – around 95degrees – the two strands of DNA will seperate. We use this to our advantage when we want to copy the DNA many times.
