A cell is a living organism! There are lots of single cell organisms on our planet. But if you’re asking if I could evolve a single cell into something more complex with multiple cells – then no. We can do things which help us understand how it could happen, but to evolve a new species or type of organism takes a REALLY REALLY REALLY long time. It took evolution about 2.8 billion years to do it the first time, and I don’t think my career will last that long!

We sort of do this when we make babies! A sperm and an egg are each a single cell: fuse them together and they will begin to multiply and divide in to a baby. Voila, 1 cell becomes a whole person 🙂

Yes it is possible to grow or evolve a cell into a living thing…like human baby comes after sperm and egg got fertilised and this cell gets maturity….
