Hello monsterjohn. No I don’t believe in God. But that does not mean you can’t do science and believe in God, many scientists do. Science is based on evidence and research, it must be prepared to adjust its views based on the current evidence in order to move forward. Religion is based on faith and belief. These two methods are very different from each other and independent.

There are of course things in science which require personal reasoning to address things which might appear to conflict. Like Evolution for example. I spoke to someone once who was very religious who told me,
“For a long time I had a very difficult time with Evolution. I believed it to be true, but it didn’t sit right with my beliefs. Then I realised everything must have a soul, and that is created by God. Evolution is nature, but God is the soul. Now it doesn’t worry me any more.”
I thought this was a very good answer and one I couldn’t argue with. But it’s up to the individual to find out how to make them fit together in your life.

Personally I don’t believe in a particular God. I believe that there must be something, some higher plan, but I don’t believe it takes the form of some ‘God’. You’d be amazed at the wide variety of beliefs in the scientific world!
