I worked pretty hard through school and sixth-form to make sure I got the grades I needed for Uni, then I did a three-year degree and a research project in genetics, which enabled me to get my first job in a genetics lab. I then worked for two years whilst preparing to apply for the four-year training course you have to undertake to work as a Clinical Scientist. I’m currently in year 3 of the 4.

I think I’ve worked pretty hard, but I have tried not to let it come at the expense of my social life, and I pretty much manage to keep to a 9 to 5 working day, so it hasn’t been totally back-breaking. 🙂

I think it requires lots of hard work…I did my B.Sc. and M.Sc. first class..and than started working as trainee technician for almost 2 years..and after lot of hard work I got promoted and worked as Junior scientist for almost 5 years…I am now at senior position almost after 13 years experience…and frankly speaking as being scientist you required to work hard and smart with your brain…

I’ve worked pretty hard to get here. I worked really hard during my GCSEs because I didn’t go to a very good high school and wanted to go to a grammar school to get better a-levels. Then during my A-levels I met a boy and slacked off a bit :S. Luckily I still got into the university I wanted, but I took a year out and did some travelling in central america before I started. Then I came back raring to go, and worked hard at uni for 4 yrs, to get my BSc, then another 3 yrs to get my PhD. And here I am in my first postdoc.

Working hard at uni was a lot easier I found, because the stuff we were learning was so interesting!
