Hey there! Let’s answer the main question now then 🙂

The science of forgetting is still a research area. Some studies have suggested that forgetting is regulated by chemicals such as dopamine that stimulate neurons in our brain. These studies are usually based on animal behavior in certain tests and whether or not the animal can remember the correct thing to do

Whenever we experience something, a section of our brain becomes highly active and the cells in the brain (neurons) send signals to each other called action potentials. The more a certain brain cell is active, the easier it is to send these signals, so perhaps we remember memories that are important and forget other because we don’t try to remember them every day.
