I was better at some things than others in school. I always liked science (biology mostly), and I did quite well at it. And maths. But I was rubbish at wood work (even though I insisted on taking it as a GCSE).

I don’t think I was more clever than other people, but I did work quite hard, and liked to try and get good marks.

I did quite well in school, obviously you tend to move towards subjects that you like the best – meaning that for me, geography and textiles were the first to go! I really disliked maths and physics, but didn’t have the choice to drop them until after GCSE so I just had to do my best. I’m glad I have the maths skills as I have needed them in my job to calculate risk of disease in families!

Yes, but I was quite lazy until I was 15 as I found I could get away with not working very hard. Then I started failing exams, and that convinced my to start working harder! Funnily enough, my grades got better when I worked harder.

Over the years, I’ve learnt three handy tips for doing well when studying:
      – Try to find out the interesting things in your subject and read about them. That will make studying more enjoyable and less like a chore.
      – Steady study with no distractions is best, but it takes practise to do it right. Cut off the music, cut off the internet for a planned block per day, and then when it’s over you can relax without any guilt.
      – Remember that the stuff you study now is like an apprenticeship. Later on the subjects get loads more interesting, but you have to put the time in now to get to the really good stuff later. Hang in there. If you already enjoy it now, you’re in for a good time later!

I was definitely clever in school…but not in studies..lol:-)….I was the student who had to work hard to got good grades…I was always running away from Maths…I loved biology and I was always in top during my biology results…I was clever at sports and other extra-curricular activites at school…

I received bad GCSE predictions. However my GCSE results were at the top of my year in the end!!

In my experience my grades were not a consequence of being clever but were a consequence of not giving up and asking for help. Problems didn’t occur when I didn’t understand, they occurred when I didn’t ask any questions.
