• Question: you are all really clever how many years does it take to become as clever as you?x

      Hello Alysha!

      I suppose I did learn a lot during my degree which took 3 years to complete. When you are at school you do lots of different subjects and have difficult choices to make, like what subjects to choose. However, when you do a degree you concentrate on only 1 subject for 3 whole years. It is this intensive learning that gives you a boost in understanding a subject.

      That is very sweet! I don’t really think of myself as being very clever, I’ve just learnt things as I’ve gone along really! I like to think that I’ll always be learning throughout my life, so in that sense you are only as clever as the number of years you spend learning stuff. I’m 25, so I guess I’m 25yrs worth of clever :b

      But in terms of education, I did a degree after my A levels (3yrs) and then I went straight into my job. I found that learning on the job worked really well for me as I like to get ‘hands-on’ and learn by doing, but some people prefer to do further education such as a Master’s degree instead. You should do what works for you 🙂

      You’re very nice to say so! But cleverness is something which can definitely be learnt! All of the scientists here have been at school MUCH longer than you – just so we can learn more “stuff”. I didn’t finish being a student until I was 26 when I finished my PhD, and still it’s part of my job to learn stuff!

      To be a scientist the only skill you need is to be curious about everything. Based on all the really interesting questions you’re all asking I’d say you’ve all got what it takes. I’ve learnt loads doing this “I’m a scientist”, I’m worried one of you is going to come and steal my job!

      Thanks for the compliments Alysha..I personally think you guys are very clever at this age..and I don’t remember I knew anything when i was at your age…so its only takes little bit of hard work, focus on what you do..and the most important is enjoy the work you do…
